Traffic on busy street in Toronto, tram, cars and padestrian commuters

About:

Help us help you! The Greater Toronto and Greater Golden Horseshoe areas are growing faster than ever. As our population grows, coordinated planning around future transportation needs is critical.

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey provides a wealth of valuable information to help us plan a better transportation system. That’s why local and provincial agencies are working together to conduct this very important household travel study.

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) is a confidential and voluntary travel survey on how Ontarians in the Greater Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe areas use the transportation system. The TTS has been undertaken every five years since 1986. The data collected helps local and regional governments, as well as the province and transit agencies, make transportation planning and investment decisions.

The TTS is jointly undertaken by 22 funding agencies including the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), Metrolinx/GO Transit, the TTC, and municipalities across the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Golden Horseshoe Area.

An independent, Canadian research firm, R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd., has been contracted to administer the survey.

Your participation is important!

If you received a letter or a phone call from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation you have been randomly selected to participate in the study and have the chance to shape your region’s transportation future!

The goal of the survey is to understand where people are going and how they get there by collecting information on the trips made by each member of your household. The information you provide will be used to make informed transportation decisions on future planning and investment for roads, public transit, and other transportation facilities to make it easier to get where you need to go.

It is important that we gather information from residents from all walks of life who use any mode of transportation – including drivers, public transit users, cyclists, and pedestrians – regardless of how many trips they took.

Starting in late August 2016, pre-survey letters including details about the survey will be sent to randomly selected households. Participants can choose to complete the survey by phone or online. The survey will take a typical household about 10 minutes to complete over the phone.

How do I participate?

You can participate in one of two easy ways:

  1. Complete the survey online by signing with the secure access code provided on the first page of the letter you received.
  2. Give us a call at 1-855-688-1133 (toll-free) or 416-913-0050 (local) and one of our professional interviewers will be happy to conduct the survey with you over the telephone. We are available any time between 9 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Our survey interviewers may call selected households on weeknights between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and weekends between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We will only be calling households with a listed phone number from the white pages that was matched to the address we have on file. If you received a letter inviting you to participate, we would encourage you to do the survey online or please call us, in case we cannot call you.
